A wide range of stories and books have informed how we tell history here at Shirley Place. From Charles Dickens’ Oliver Twist to the Autobiography of Malcom X, from Richard Bushman’s The Refinement of America to Mark Peterson’s recent The City State of Boston, a number of nonfiction - and some fiction - works help us to contextualize our story and illustrate it for a modern audience.
Join the Shirley-Eustis House’s Executive Director Suzy Buchanan for this behind-the-scenes, intimate tour of our Mansion, and get a glimpse into how the sausage (of public interpretation) is made at our site. Discuss the aforementioned books through an historical lens, as well as the ways new research and publications shape our narrative. Tour attendees will also have an opportunity to learn more about how we develop tours for a public audience.
Tours will conclude with coffee and donuts for attendees. A donation of $10 per person is suggested, but not required. Spots are very limited - reserve yours at the link below today!
